  1. Dear Gary, George and all the Mendes family. My sincere condolences. Losing a loved one is never easy, but remember the good times, cherish the memories and he will always live on in your hearts.

  2. To Gloria and kids, Barbara and I send our deepest sympathy to you all at this difficult time.

George and I got together as driver & navigator in many BRC rallies, There were many times that we had a good laugh, usually at ourselves! On one occasion, when it was a really wet rally, the route took us to River, in St. Philip, and we came upon an expanse of water about 100 metres wide. I stopped the car and said to George, do we really have to cross this water? He said, this is the route, drive the car as we are wasting time! I did as he instructed, and when the water reached the bottom of the front windshield and the car started to float, I looked at him and noticed that we were sitting in water in our seats when he said “start the propeller”! Luckily another competitor assisted in towing us backwards onto dry land and we finished the rally. It was great having such a calm person sitting next to me to keep me ‘cool’ in other times of adversity like when we hit a hidden rock on the Diamond Corner Special Stage and redesigned the front left wheel and suspension. When the car settled he simply said “Oh dear”! Truly a good man to have around, especially in times of trouble.

Gloria, I am sorry to say that I will not be able to attend the Service as I have hurt my foot and have to keep it elevated. Our thoughts will be with you all and I will remember the good times with George.

    Sincerely
    John and Barbara
