Doris Elaine Brathwaite nèe Connell of Foul Bay, St. Philip and formerly of Bell Hill near Martin’s Bay St John, departed this life on 21st September 2023 at age 89 years.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Kathleen Connell.
Daughter-in-law of the late Brandford and Maizie Brathwaite.
Widow of the late Coleridge Brathwaite.
Loving mother of Wavney Brathwaite-Bastian (The Bahamas), Debbie and Troy Brathwaite.
Mother-in-law of Mario Bastian,The Bahamas.
Adored grandmother of Najah Bastian (The Bahamas). Beloved adopted mother of Kevin Murray, Kenneth Jackman and Vernetta Walters.
Beloved sister of Norma Van-derdussen, (Canada) Colvin Connell and the late Oreen Spencer and Beresford Connell.
Sister-in-law of Matrid Mahon, USA, Nicolaas Van-derdussen (Canada), and the late Rudolph Spencer.
Adored aunt of Celeste Spencer, the late Mark Spencer, Kathy- Ann Nicholls, Stacey Connell (USA) and Jeanette Van-derdussen (Canada).
Great-aunt of Jemar, Aydan and Jaia Van-derdussen (Canada)
Adored aunt by marriage to Keith Greenidge, Maida Jackman, Cheryl Holder and the late John Mahon (USA).

Doris had many friends, too many to mention; the late Donald Phillips of Jamaica, special friend, other dear friends such as Joan Howard, Peter Best, Ronald Giddens (Canada) Owen and Charmaine Derrick (USA), Lolita Archer, Yvonne Elcock, Polly and Mary Arthur, Rosie Jackman, Norma Lowe, Lucille Thompson, Winston Dash, and Wendy Fields, and all those whom her life had touched as a teacher or otherwise.
A closed casket service of thanksgiving for the life of DORIS ELAINE BRATHWAITE takes place on Thursday, 19th October 2023 at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens, The Ridge, Christ Church where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m followed by the interment in the Frangipani Lawns.

Please know that your mom was an amazing mother and teacher. I was pleased and happy to know her from the time I was at St. Bartholomew’s school and running out to carry her bags.
