JOYCE LADY STRAKER
Joyce Lady Straker, 79, of The Hope, St. David’s, Christ Church, Barbados, passed away peacefully on May 16th, 2021 surrounded by family at her home. She was born to Stanley Lancelot Johnson and Gladys Lady Hoyos. She married her husband, Sir Emile Straker in November 1961 whom she leaves behind after nearly 60 years of marriage.
Lady Straker was preceded in death by brothers Mark and Ralph “Bruggadung” Johnson. She is survived by siblings Dianne Brimo, Rosemary Smith, Paul Johnson, Heather Peel and Kay Hickey.
In addition to her loving husband, she leaves behind to mourn her children, Dean Straker, Ray Straker, Stacey-Jane Choat, her ten grandchildren, her one great grandchild and many friends and family.
Lady Straker was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur, having owned and operated the Lady Jane’s Boutique, the Banana Boat Restaurant, and the Plantation Tropical Spectacular Dinner Theatre. Lady Straker was also the first female pilot of Barbados.
Due to Covid restrictions, her life will be celebrated at a private gathering to be held at The Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 at 3pm. Attendance is by invitation only. JANICE ROSELIND SMALL
SMALL – JANICE ROSALIND, aged 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6th, 2021, at the QEH in Barbados. Born November 23rd, 1943 in Barbados, to Lisle and Marjorie King (both deceased). Janice worked at Cottle Catford & Co. for 32 years as a legal Secretary and enjoyed life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting and spending time with friends and family, travelling to see her granddaughter, reading, garage sales, and her love for animals.
She is preceded in death by her first husband Erick Wallbom (Michigan) and second husband Nathan Small. Survived by her children, Todd Wallbom (California) and Tina Guershon (Texas); daughter-in-law Agnes Wallbom (California); granddaughter, Chloe Wallbom (California); sister Brenda Johnson and brother Geoffrey King; aunt of Phyllis Skinner and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for family and friends will be determined at a later date.
