Trevor passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 in Aurora, Ontario. Beloved husband of Rosemary Pemberton, father of daughters, Alison (Steve) Taylor, and Jessica Gibbs, and grandfather of Jack, and Silvia Taylor, and Leo Gibbs. Trevor was predeceased by his parents, Daisy Isabelle and Cuthbert Lisle Gibbs, brother Harold (Cassie) Gibbs and sister Joyce (Peter) Gubi. Trevor will be fondly remembered by his sister Patsy Melville, sister-in-law Janet Weel, brother in-law John Pemberton, nieces and nephews, Donna-Mary Proverbs, Susan Cole, Jane Larcombe, Anne Gubi, Peter Gubi, Lisle, James, David and Ann Gibbs, Ingrid Weel and Christine, Darcy, Eva and Max McNamara, extended family and friends.
Trevor was born in Barbados. He grew up near Worthing Beach, which always held a special place in his heart, and went to Harrison College. He was a graduate of McGill University and Western and a Chartered Accountant. He worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for several years, including in Singapore, from where he and his first wife, Sharon Gibbs, travelled with their daughters to many places, including Bali, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines. He lived for many years in West Vancouver with his family, working in business, and married Rosemary Pemberton, also from Barbados, before moving to Aurora. Trevor wrote a historical treasury hunt mystery based in Barbados, and started a creative writing group at the Aurora Seniors Centre. He enjoyed badminton in West Vancouver, Aurora and Newmarket. He was involved in the West Vancouver United Church as well as the Trinity United Church in Aurora.
Trevor will be greatly missed. He was an excellent storyteller known for his love of history and music, particularly Barbadian history and Calypso, Soca and Steel Band. He loved spending time with his grandchildren in Summerland, Ottawa and Georgian Bay. He loved the sea and walks along the beach and in the forests of British Columbia. He also loved swimming, meeting people from around the world and discussing politics, and animals and birds. He will be remembered for his stories, kindness, playful sense of humour, and “killer” badminton serves.
The family would like to express deep gratitude to Doctors Charles Cho, Yasmin Rahim and Danyel Saeed, and the nursing and support teams at Southlake Hospital. Trevor and his family highly valued such grace, kindness and respect.
A Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving will take place at the Aurora United Church (79 Victoria Street, Aurora) on Thursday, August 15, at 10 a.m., immediately followed by the Interment of ashes at the Aurora Cemetery (14253 Yonge Street, Aurora) to which all are welcome.
